The Buddy Bowl was founded in 1977 in San Diego, CA as a fun way to annually reunite friends who had a common interest in playing football. In 1999 the Buddy Bowl’s focus changed from simply a reunion of friends to that of raising money for a worthy cause. In June of 2003 Buddy Bowl Inc. was incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to raising money for military, law enforcement, and children’s related charities through the annual flag football tournament series.

The Buddy Bowl is unique because it is the only annual event in the U.S. that raises money for military and law enforcement personnel and their families through a community based flag football tournament that includes both physically challenged and able-bodied participants. Today, the Buddy Bowl is played across the nation to support injured military, first responders and their families.

Home » About Us Why Golf? Divots can be replaced. FREEDOM cannot. In 2005, Tee it up for the Troops started a golf event to raise funds to support our veterans and their families. Since golf is one of America’s favorite pastimes we felt what better way to honor our military than by hosting a day of golf to appreciate and recognize the freedoms they have fought for by playing on some of the best real estate in the country. Around the world brave men and women of the US Armed Forces have sacrificed and are still sacrificing their lives in pursuit of this very freedom we enjoy. Their bravery and selfless serving is the reason Tee it up for the Troops is committed to honor, respect and remember our brave members of the United States military.

Our Progress In 2005, our inaugural year, we raised over $80,000. Today, we have raised nearly $5 million dollars and have held hundreds of events throughout the country. Over eighty-seven percent of the proceeds raised at Tee it up for the Troops events go directly to numerous programs that continue to benefit and support the veterans and their families.  Our organization’s donations have been made possible due to support from the American public, many of them veterans themselves.

Sponsors, volunteers and golfers across the country have “stepped up to the tee” to say “thank you” to the members of the US Armed Forces and their families.  Please visit our Business Partners and Flagship Event Sponsors pages for complete listings of our supporters.

Our Goal Make the Friday closest to September 11th the NATIONAL DAY OF GOLF.  This day has since produced numerous golf outings throughout the country where the proceeds benefit veterans of all branches and all conflicts. This is our way to salute those who have answered the call of duty; a day to honor, respect and remember the sacrifice of all veterans and their families.
